Walking aids cane travel

Cane travel is a kind of program that most companies are offering. It allows the individuals to develop the skills and self-confidence they need to travel independently anywhere they want to and need to go. Some people think that blind people can only get to where they need to be by following a set route that they have memorized in great detail. They think that blind people can't use public transportation or find their way around unfamiliar places.

It is important that blind people learn to travel independently and solve the problems they encounter on their own. We never believe that they could go wherever and whenever they want if someone was always following them and getting them out of troublesome situations.

In cane travel class, teachers uses canes and put that in their student's chins. Proper use and arc of cane from side to side is being taught. Students learned that if they move their left foot forward, they should be tapping their cane on the right side. They must also swing it wide enough to convert the width of their body. The tip of the cane should be at least two steps in front of them which giving them enough time to avoid an obstacle or find a curb or flight of stairs.

Our travel lessons are very functional. Students learn to travel by accomplishing the daily tasks that everyone needs to accomplish such as going to the bank, post office, grocery store, pharmacy, hardware store, etc. They learn to use the address system to locate businesses, they learn to use the transit information line to plan their trip, and they learn to use customer assistance to shop for what they need.

As students develop their skills and become more comfortable with those skills, they begin going out on solo lessons. They start by taking short walks around the neighborhood and gradually work their way up to more advanced assignments. This allows students to think independently and develop their problem solving skills.

After the time for cane travel class has been consumed, students gained that they don't need to wait around for someone to take them somewhere. They can get there themselves.
